After about four hours of competitive sporting activities, the convicted prisoners came first in five events, propelling them to the top.

Grouped into three, the teams contested in oware, playing cards, ludo, draughts, volleyball, table tennis, eating and dancing, as well as small poles football games.

For their prize, the convicted prisoners took home assorted soaps, biscuits and canned drinks, among other products.

The second prize was picked by remand prisoners, who were awarded with various products, while the third prize went to the condemned prisoners.

About 582 out of the 1900 inmates in the Kumasi Central Prison took part in the games sponsored by the prison officers to help the inmates to socialise, exercise themselves and have fun.

Addressing the inmates and officers after the games, Ashanti Regional Sports Officer of the Prison Service, Assistant Superintendent of Prisons Augustine Godwin Nana Addo, commended the inmates and officers for their support for the games.

He urged the inmates to take the various training modules they were given seriously to enable them to integrate into society and become economically empowered after their jail term.

“Do not see yourselves as outcasts but have confidence in yourself and plan towards what to do after your jail term,”  Nana Addo said.
