Coconut Grove Stallions storm Turf Club tomorrow

Jockey Yaw Azrah, a renowned horse rider, and his colleagues will thrill lovers of the sport of kings tomorrow when the Coconut Groove Stallions storm the Accra Turf Club (ATC) at Ashaley Botwe, near the University Farms, in the Ga Homowo Race Meeting.

Azrah, a trained jockey from the famous J.J. Hindley Stables in New Market, England, will ride four of the over 15 horses from the Coconut Grove stables that will line up to battle for honours in tomorrow’s races.

Jockey Azrah, who won over 50 cups in his heyday, has promised to bring his rich experience in the sport to bear on the races to give spectators value for their money.

The four new horses from the hospitality company, namely; Biscuit, Blessing, Captain and Cocoglover, are Arabian and Nigerian thoroughbred and trained over the years at the Elmina beach.

They will be competing in divisions 4A, 4B, 4C and the maidens race, alongside Rule of Law, Young Man, Shatter, High Rise, Let Them Say, Bonanza, Lady Secret, Thunder Storm, Secretary, Lean On Me, Chelsea and General Salute, among others.

Patrons who will throng the ATC are expected to witness some exciting challenges between the horses which will run over a distance of 1,000 metres, 1,200 metres and 1,400 metres to win laurels for their owners.

According to the organisers, the gates will open at 1:30 pm and the event will attract a fee of GH¢2.
