Coaches pay tribute to Attuquayefio

The CAF-licensed Coaches Association of Ghana has paid glowing tribute to Jones Attuquayefio, describing the deceased football coach as "a legend of the game".

Coach Ken Augustt, general secretary of the Association, said "Jones' death has robbed us of an astute football mind, a personality who understood the game both from the viewpoint of a player and a technical person".

Coach Attuquayefio, who led Accra Hearts of Oak to the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup titles in 2000 and 2004 respectively, passed on in May after losing the fight against throat cancer in the latter part of his life.

Coach Augustt said the nation and the football fraternity may have lost a great person, but "we feel his absence the most considering the fact that he was one of us and many have learned from him".

He said the leadership of the Association has consequently decided to contribute to the family in the wake of the "big loss".

He urged members to make voluntary donations towards the purpose through him at the public relations office at Quality Control Company, Cocobod head office in Accra, or call him on 026-7432645 or 024-5208583.
