Barnes predicts competitive EPL season

Liverpool legend, John Barnes, says Manchester United do not possess enough quality players to win the English Premier League (EPL) title but expected  them to challenge for third place because of their  coach, Louis van Gaal.

The former England international was the guest of honour at the TV3 launch of the English Premier League which was held at the residence of the British High Commissioner in Accra last Thursday.

“This season is going to be very competitive between the top  five clubs; Liverpool, Arsenal,. Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester Utd.

“Manchester Utd will challenge for third or fourth place and that will be because of the presence of van Gaal. If they want to do better they need to sign better players”, Barnes noted.

In an address, the CEO of TV3, Augustus Dickson, said his outfit’s’  decision to telecast the EPL which started  last Saturday. would help to consolidate their position as a leading television station in sports content.

Mr Dickson said, “Following our huge success during the coverage of the World Cup, we acquired the rights for the EPL in response to the growing calls from our cherished viewers to give them a bite of the EPL fun.
