The players, according to the organisers, will compete to build up more points in categories such as Under-16, U-14, U-12, U-10 and U-8 events for both boys and girls, as they seek to win the ultimate for their respective clubs and communities.

One player expected to cause a stare in today’s competition is Samuel Nyamekye who became the toast of spectators last month after defeating Louis Nyaaba 4-5(4), 5-4(4),4-2 to come tops in the boys Under-16 division.

Nyamekye, 15, a representative from the Sakumono Tennis Club, proved too strong for his opponent with powerful serves and good ground strokes throughout the match as opponent, Nyaaba struggled to find answers to his skilful display.

The maiden edition of the league came off on February 18 at the Sakumono Tennis Club, involving 50 young tennis players comprising 36 boys and 14 girls who received medals and souvenirs from sponsors for the exceptional players.

The year long tournament is aimed at promoting education and health through sports, as well as unearthing  talents  among the youth in and around  Sakumono, Tema and Ashaiman communities.
