Attram vows to "do very well" with Oly in premiership

Accra Great Olympics yesterday made a triumphant return to play in the nation's top flight football next season after they defeated former Premier League campaigners, Mighty Jets 2-1 at the Mats Park, at Teshie.

Even with a game still in hand, the Accra-based club booked their qualification for the premiership next season, having amassed 63 points in the zone three of the Division One League to be followed by Kpando Hearts Of Lions, with 59 points after beating Istanbul 2-0 at Akyim yesterday

Olympics, despite being the away side, started quite brightly but were surprisingly down to an unexpected goal in the 35th minute when a Mighty Jet forward pounced on a defensive blunder to give the home side a first half lead.

Just 15 minutes into the second half, Coach Godwin Attram introduced striker Maxwell Nii, who piled more pressure and was gifted with a chance to equalise when Mighty Jets defenders were caught flat-footed.

In the 72nd minute, Maxwell scored his second goal after a solo run deep from the right flanks, dribbling past three Mighty Jets defenders and perfectly lobbing the ball over the goalkeeper into the net.

Coach Attram's charges defended well and maintained their composure after the second goal as they held onto their 2-1 advantage till the referee blew the final whistle.

Speaking to the Graphic Sports after their victory, Coach Godwin Attram thanked fans of the club and the management for their trust in him since his appointment as the head coach of the club in June and promised the team would do well in the premiership next season .

“I promised fans of the club we will return and we have. I want to thank all who supported me since my appointment and I want to assure fans that we will do very well in the league next season, " Attram said.
