Attram saves day for Olympics

Former Black Stars midfielder, Godwin Attram, played the role of a super substitute after coming from the bench to rescue Accra Great Olympics as they defeated Kpando Heart of Lions 1-0 in their Elite Cup match at the Accra stadium yesterday.

Attram put his side ahead in the 74th minute through a well taken spot kick just a minute after he was introduced onto the pitch.

Until the former PSV Eindhoven player came on to replace Emmanuel Amartey, it appeared the game was heading for a stalemate after both teams confined their play in the midfield and created very little scoring chances.

However, Attram’s goal separated the two sides. Lions looked the promising side in the opening minutes of the game but poor finishing robbed them of an opening goal. Osei Kofi left the sparse crowd dismayed in the early minutes of the game when he was gifted a free header in the Olympics penalty box but he could only direct the ball into the waiting hands of Olympics goalie, Osei Boateng.

However, the Wonder Club came into the picture midway into the half with beautiful passes between Francis Attuquaye and Nanka Bruce before Bruce volleyed the ball off target.

The tempo of the game remained the same in the second half with chances few and far between until Attuquaye blasted wide an opportunity to give Olympics the lead in the 52nd minute.

In the 74th minute, a Lions defender was penalised by referee Fred Andoh for handling the ball in the penalty box, after Olympics’ Adom Ampofo raced down the flanks to shoot towards goal. Attram stepped up to score from the spot for the match winner.
