‘ANOPA’ introduces swimming in Cape Coast

ANOPA (Agoro Ne Obra Pa) literally meaning “play for a better life”, an international sports NGO, based in Cape Coast, in collaboration with Landessportbund of Germany is organising a swimming coaching clinic for interested youth, sports teachers and security personnel, who will also be taken through water safety education.

The programme, which is under the auspices of the Regional Sports Authority, takes off today and ends on June 7, 2014, at Samrit Hotel, Interbeton Road, in Cape Coast.

The resource persons for the clinic are renowned swimming coaches from German Swimming Association.

According to the project coordinator in Ghana, Mr Ernest Appiah, this is the second time the “Anopa Project” is embarking on the swimming clinic after the first was organised last year for beginners and intermediates.

The particpants will learn to save lives, compete in tournaments and train others in the community, after acquiring great training to gain the necessary and valuable teaching experience.

The course is expected to provide the prospective coaches the required skills to help nurture the talents of the youth in the Metropolis in particular and the region at large.

Those expected to grace the occasion include Mr Abeidu Wilson, Regional Director, National Sports Authority – Cape Coast; Mr Abdul Wahab, Country Director Play Soccer; Mrs Helena Williams, Sports Section, Legon; Mr Albert Kofi Bonney – Regional Sports Coordinator; ChristophKnipprath, Anopa Project Coordinator Germany; and Nana Ayensu, Head Coach, Anopa Cape Coast. 

The Anopa project kids swimming team will also be inaugurated.
