Akufo-Addo, Mahama, others sympathise with Kumasi Asante Kotoko

President Nana Akufo-Addo has expressed condolence to the management and players of the Kumasi Asante Kotoko Football Club over Wednesday night’s accident that led to the death of its Deputy Equipment Officer.

The President in a tweet Thursday morning said “Saddened by the news of the accident involving players & officials of Kotoko. My heart goes out to the team; speedy recovery to the injured.”

The Kotoko team’s bus ran into a stationary KIA truck close to Nsawam in the Eastern Region on their way back to Kumasi after a 1-0 loss to Inter Allies at the El-wak Stadium in Accra.

All passengers on board sustained various degrees of injury, while the team’s Deputy Equipment Officer, Kofi Asare, reportedly died on the spot.

Following the accident, many, including Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia; former President John Mahama; Black Stars skipper, Asamoah Gyan, have taken to social media to commiserate with the team and family of the dead.

Former President Mahama on his Facebook wall called for prayers for the team.

He wrote, “Let's remember Asante Kotoko S.C. in our prayers.”

Skipper Asamoah Gyan wrote, “my thoughts and prayers are with the management, playing body and the supporters of Kumasi Asante Kotoko on this fatal accident.”

 

Premier League Club, Accra Hearts of Oak also changed their Twitter handle to #Pray for Kotoko to commiserate with their fellow teammates.
