Abrefa shows class at Ping Pong League

The rivalry between Ghana  and Nigeria  in table tennis was rekindled at the D.G. Hathiramani Sports Hall of the Accra Stadium last Saturday when top seed, Derek Abrefa, crossed swords with Nigerian Favour Ayobami in a  keenly contested match during the ongoing Ping-Pong League.

Abrefa, playing for Immigration, however, won the hearts of the fans  when he outclassed his opponent 2-0 in their singles encounter in the presence of the Sports Minister, Nii Lante Vanderpuye, as well as the  president of the Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA), Mawuko Afadzinu, and other  dignitaries at the hall. 

Both players tried to outplay each other with quick smashes, witty chips and fast spinnings but it was Abrefa who prevailed, 

In the first round matches for the day , Police beat Power 3-0, while  EMEFS thrashed Navy 3-1, with  Immigration beating  Kings 3-1

In the second round, Madina Club lost 0-3 to  Fire, GRA thrashed Synergy 3-0, with Prisons whitewashing Spinners 3-0.

In the day’s other matches Immigration defeated Ashanti Monetary County 3-0, EMEFS beat Power 3-0, Loopers lost 1-3 to Kings, Police won 3-0 against Spinners and Team Baboo won 3-0 against Madina Club.

 Navy also  beat Synergy 3-0, GRA thrashed Army 3-0 and Fire were 3-1 victors against Prisons.

The third round matches saw Loopers beating Ashanti 3-0. Spinners were 3-0 victors against Power, Kings beat Madina Power Club 3-0 and Team Baboo beat GRA 3-0, while Prisons also thrashed Army 3-0.

In the women’s league, Police won 3-1 against Navy, EMEFS lost 1-3 against Immigration, and GRA beat Army 3-0.
