We will bounce back against South Africa — Basigi

Ghana's senior female football team, the Black Queens, have vowed to bounce back after missing the opportunity to win their first Africa Women's Championship (AWC) title in Cameroun.

The Queens last Tuesday lost their semi-final game 0-1 against hosts, Cameroun and will now have to play for third place against South Africa who also lost 0-1 to Nigeria.

Despite their loss, Coach Yussif Basigi in a post match press conference said he was proud of his ladies as they did not embarrass themselves.

"It is disappointing that we could not accomplish our mission of winning the title, but in defeat to Cameroun, my ladies did very well.

"Much as it hurts, I think football was for once fair, as the Camerounians needed to reward the huge attendance and support from their fans with victory. I would have wished for the same if we were in their shoes," Coach Basigi said.

He said despite missing out on the final, all was not lost as there was still the third place game to be played against South Africa on Friday.

"Quickly, I am going to urge the ladies to get over the loss and get ready for our last game. If we missed out on the ultimate, we should at least, get the consolation bronze, and I promise we will bounce back to claim that against South Africa. It won't be easy, but we will prevail," Coach Basigi indicated.

Though revelling in their win, Cameroun coach, Enow Ngachu, admitted that Ghana had been the toughest opposition they had encountered so far on their way to the final.

"Truthfully, if we had played at a neutral ground, we may not have been able to win. The fans greatly helped us to win against such  formidable opponents.

Certainly, Ghana had come to derail our plans, but thankfully, we prevailed because we know what defeat would do to all that had been put in," Coach Ngachu said.
