Queens vow to tame Lionesses

Ghana's senior female football team, the Black Queens, have vowed to put Cameroun's Indomitable Lionnesses and their teeming fans to an early sleep by ending their ambitious dream of becoming African champions.

This afternoon at the Amadou Ahadjo Omnisport Stadium in Yaounde, the two sides clash in a fierce semi-final duel for a ticket to the final on Saturday.

Yesterday, Coach Enow Ngachu assured Camerounians that the Indomitable Lionesses were ready not only to face their nemesis, Ghana, but were also prepared to end their opponents’ dominance over them and keep their 'host and win' dream on course.

"Ghana have caused us much pain and trouble in the past, but that will be no more. We intend and have indeed planned and prepared well to stop them.

"Having been third and second in the two preceding AWCs, it is time to win it and we won't let Ghana stand in our way," a translation of Coach Ngachu’s thoughts indicated.

However, in a quick rebuttal, Queens’ Coach Yussif Basigi reminded the media of how Cameroun painfully ended Ghana's 'host and win' dream at AFCON 2008, and that while the Queens are not in Yaounde to avenge that defeat, they only want Cameroun to also go through that moment of disappointment.

"Host and win is always a lofty dream, but remember how Cameroun made Ghanaians feel during the semi-finals of AFCON 2008 which Ghana hosted but lost 0-1 to the Indomitable Lions. We also want Cameroun to know how it feels like to lose at home.”

"We are aware of how the stands will be filled tomorrow but we are also determined to put Cameroun to sleep," Coach Basigi said.

However, they may find their voices in front of their vociferous fans led by their legend Roger Milla and the Queens would have to adopt an effective plan to tame them.

Coach Basigi says they have the antidote and their game plan will be 50 per cent tactics and 50 per cent psychology.

"They are under pressure to win at all cost. We will just go into the game to get a mission fulfilled."

Probable line-up for Queens: Nana Ama Asantewaa, Cynthia Adobea, Linda Eshun, Rosemary Ampem, Janet Egyir, Juliet Acheampong, Priscilla Saahene, Priscilla Otchere, Elizabeth Addo, Portia Boakye and Samira Suleman.
