After a gruelling 2-2 draw with the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the petroleum engineers kept their cool by snatching the victory and the GH¢2,000 cash prize in a thrilling penalty shoot-out in which they won 6-5.

The two-day event held at the newly constructed UMaT Sports Centre saw the showcase of footballing skills and great sportsmanship by the various departments, faculties, colleges and schools in the university

In the female category, the Faculty of Engineering (FoE) took the top prize after beating the Faculty of Mineral Resources and Technology (FMRT) ladies 2-1 to emerge victorious.

At the ceremony, the Vice Chancellor of UMaT, Professor J.S.Y Kuma, said the rationale behind the competition was to provide a platform that would unite members of the university and afford them the opportunity to have fun.

Also, he said, it was an opportunity for the members of the university to interact with some of its stakeholders such as the mining companies in the area.

“It is also to create a shared space and experience to inculcate in the participating teams the values of selflessness, determination, endurance and patriotism, as well as help build esteem, leadership skills and the spirit of community relations in them,’’ he added.
