MTN FA Cup quarters... Berekum Chelsea dare Wa All Stars

With the defence of the Ghana Premier League (GPL) title all but botched for Wa All Stars, the MTN FA Cup remains their only hope of a silverware this season as they battle Berekum Chelsea in the quarter-finals of the competition at the Wa Park on Sunday.

Ironically, the FA Cup trophy has eluded both clubs since its re-introduction some six seasons ago and this mouthwatering clash could be a fine opportunity for both teams to attempt to win the competition for the first time.

Unlike last season when Wa All Stars appeared lethal, their steam seems to have evaporated so quickly, and they now look an ordinary side, and they would want to appease their fans with a win over Berekum Chelsea to progress to the semi-finals.

It is unclear what has come over Coach Alhaji Mumuni Sokpari’s charges as they struggle in the league this season, however, they are expected to come out of their shells and give the Berekum lads a run for their money.

The exit of goalkeeper Richard Ofori has created a vacuum which Coach Sokpari must fill but he could count on skipper Hafiz Adams together with Sadiq Alhassan, Seth Amoateng, Mathew Andoh, Issahaku Konda and Moses Nyarko to provide him with more options up field for Sunday’s game.

Despite Wa All Stars’ poor performance this season, the Wa Park has been a difficult turf for Berekum Chelsea who were defeated 3-0 during their league encounter this season.

Both sides are likely to approach this game with caution, Wa All Stars keen not to lose their home invincibility against their guests, and Chelsea, careful not to fall again and will rely on the likes of Stephen Owusu, Richard Oti, Stephen Sarfo and Daniel Egyin to help them earn their first win at the Wa Stadium.

It may seem a relatively easy task, but Accra Hearts of Oak will be careful as they face Division One League campaigners, Danbort FC.

Danbort occupy mid table in the Zone Three of the Division One league and playing against and experienced side such as the Phobians who are very hungry for a trophy this season, would be a tall order at the Accra Sports Stadium.

At the Tarkwa T&A Park, Medeama SC also looks favourite when they play former premier league side, Amidaus Professionals.

Medeama, MTN FA Cup champions in 2013 and 2015, will rely on their experience in this competition to overcome the fighting-hard  Amidaus Professionals.
