‘Let Koufie’s life be light for Ghana football’

The bishop of the Anglican Church in Cape Coast, Rt.Rev Dr Victor A.Atta Baffoe, has urged football administrators and stakeholders to emulate Ben Koufie in the pursuit of  real progress and success for Ghana football.

Delivering the homily at the burial service of the late Ben Koufie in Cape Coast last Saturday, Bishop Baffoe emphasised the truthfulness, honesty, disciplined and dedicated life of the late Koufie, not only in football, but in every sphere of life which be believed could be a beckon of light if emulated.

“What do people think of when your name is mentioned? What is your name?” Bishop Baffoe asked the rhetorical question as he delivered the homily which eulogised the man who chose to live a simple life despite his huge success in football in Ghana and on the African continent.

Before the homily, the Minister for Youth and Sports, Nii Lante Vanderpuye, Kwesi Nyantakyi, the president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), the Coaches Association, Retired National Footballers Association, and the Confederaion of African Football (CAF), all read glowing tributes in honour of the man who rose to the ranks of football as a player, coach and an instructor and administrator.

As the tributes poured in, there was no doubt Ben Koufie was being celebrated, but when all was done and the players of Venomous Vipers bore the casket to the hearse to be conveyed to its final resting place, then it dawned on everyone that they were bidding their final farewell, drawing some tears from among the gathering, particularly some of the coaches and old players.
