Kotoko coach decries lack of goals

The head coach of Asante Kotoko, Michael Osei, has admitted the challenge in teaching players how to score goals but is still committed to improve upon their conversion rate.

He lamented that even though his players had been creating many chances, they were unable to convert them, making it imperative for him to boost the confidence of the players.

He said the technical team was working on the players to sharpen their goal-scoring technics and confidence level to enable them to take advantage of the many chances that they create during games.

In an interview with the Graphic Sports, Coach Osei noted that that notwithstanding, Kotoko were still in the race for the league title, stressing that, “Until it is over, we are not giving up.”

He said any of the top four teams had a chance of winning the league, considering the closeness of the points build-up among them.

Coach Osei indicated that the team had intensified its training and were leaving no stone unturned to ensure victory in their remaining matches.

Meanwhile, with just four matches to climax the 2015/2016 season, there seems to be a swift turn in diversion of which team could clinch the Premier League title, with leaders Wa All Stars feeling the most intense pressure, writes Daniel Amankrah.

The Wa-based club appears to have a line-up of tougher opponents ahead in their remaining four fixtures, as compared to the other title contenders, including a titanic duel against second-placed Aduana Stars at Wa on September 15.

Again, All Stars would have to rely on their unbeaten home run this season when they host Dreams FC, before bracing for more tough tests against Liberty Professionals at Dansoman and relegation-threatened Sekondi Hasaacas in their last match at Sekondi.

Similarly, Aduana Stars would also be hoping to rely on the experience of their leading top-scorer, Yahaya Mohammed, to stand a chance of clinching their second League title, with a top fixture against WAFA at Sogakope and others ahead of them.

The 2010 league champions also have a difficult home assignment against debutantes, Techiman City, at Dormaa-Ahenkro, before their final home fixture against relegation-threatened Inter Allies, which could be equally worrying.

With much pressure mounting on Coach Sergio Traguil, Accra Hearts of Oak players would have to improve upon their home performances to enhance their title chances when they play Ebusua Dwarfs and Medeama SC at the Accra Stadium before their final fixture against New Edubiase United at Bekwai.

The Phobians will kick-start their last four fixtures with a do-or-die game against Bechem United away.

Also, fourth-placed Kumasi Asante Kotoko will hope to benefit from some slips from their fellows as they engage Berekum Chelsea at the Baba Yara Stadium.

The most difficult assignment for Kotoko in their remaining matches will be the away game against Medeama at Tarkwa, before facing Ashgold and WAFA at Obuasi and Kumasi respectively.
