...Firstrust G6 competition : Can Chelsea punish Kotoko?

Arch-rivals Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Berekum Chelsea would kick-start their campaign towards being crowned champions of the novelty GHALCA First Trust G6 competition in a thrilling encounter at the Sekondi Essipong Stadium later today.

This game marks the renewal of rivalry between the two sides that barely cross path having been at each other’s throat during last season after the Porcupine Warriors succeeded in ensuring points were deducted from Chelsea.

Kumasi Asante Kotoko benefited from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Disciplinary Committee’s decision after their protest ensured points were deducted from Chelsea following the latter’s refusal to promptly settle some fine.

That incident succeeded in strengthening the hostility between the two clubs and this afternoon’s game would further stretch their rivalry to the limit in a game many considers to be the final before the final.

Already there is a cloud of uneasiness hanging around the camp of Kumasi Asante Kotoko following public criticisms over their friendly game against Jagodina and this appears to have demoralised the team despite their 5-0 thrashing of the European club.

That is what Chelsea would hope to capitalise on to punish Kotoko and to prove to them they are prepared to reclaim their place among the giants of the local football.

Chelsea have bolstered their squad with former skipper, Abdul Basit, Saddick Adams and Prince Bobby who are prepared to fight for a starting role in the Berekum side.

Their game would be followed by another mouthwatering fixture when Accra Hearts of Oak take on Medeama SC in another crunch encounter.

Medeama SC and Aduana Stars would play in the first game tomorrow while Kumasi Asante Kotoko and defending league champions, Ashgold, would set the stage alive later in the evening in a game that is expected to draw fans to the stadium.
