Bechem United Football Club will play their 24th week Premier League match against Inter Allies on Saturday at Tema without their head coach, Manuel Zacharias, whose services have been suspended with immediate effect following growing tension between the Portuguese and some officials of the club.
In a statement signed by Bechem United president, Kingsley Owusu Achiau, and made available to the Daily Graphic yesterday, the club have asked Zacharias to step aside and disengage himself from all activities of the club.
The MTN FA Cup finalists who are deep in a relegation fight where they lie in 15th place on the league log, claim the coach does not have the “temperament or the singlemindedness” to save the club from being relegated.
The order for Zacharias to step aside “includes but not limited to the training of the players, handling technical direction for matches, team selection and sitting in the technical area during matches.”
“Certain tensions between you and some officials of the club have left us with no other option than for you to step aside,” the statement added.
The coach was indicted for raging tensions with the Team Manager over issues concerning Zacharias’ decision to travel to Wa with his partner/girlfriend in the team bus, and the statement described as unacceptable the coach’s refusal to join the team bus against management directive.
It concluded that the club cannot find a solution to the issues between the coach and his girlfriend/partner and the club while they are deeply involved in a relegation dogfight.
