According to Mr Opoku, the club was going through restructuring to make it more professional, as well as a businesslike entity.

“I have initiated a rebranding, reshaping, reorganisation format into the club as part of my vision of bringing the team back into the premiership,” Mr Opoku told the Graphic Sports in his first interview with the paper since becoming the CEO of Amidaus.

The 38-year-old business development executive also revealed that with support from the club’s founder and president, Ahmed Gambo, as well as the board chairman, Ahmed Kwabena Nkrumah and new coach George Lamptey, the chips were falling into place and soon Amidaus would be a strong competitor.

“We are currently sixth on the Division One League (DOL)  table with a game in hand, our prospects look bright, it’s still early days yet,” he said with optimism.

According to him returnee captain, Isaac Amoah, defensive midfielders Shamzu Alidu, Chedric Quansah and first choice goalkeeper Abraham Hornordzi have smoothened the wrong edges of the team despite the intimidation and harassment they face from away teams.

“The recruitment of deputy coach Baba Ali from Feyenoord and goalkeeper’s trainer James Nanor have boosted the technical bench” he stated.

Mr Opoku told this paper that the team has secured a five-year GH¢40,000 per year sponsorship with MimLife Recording Studios in Tema which would also see the entity dole out GH¢200 to any player who scores on any match day.

The Tema-based club,  formed about six years, currently have 25 senior players and 14 players in the youth team.

The club made their debut in the Ghana Premier League in the 2013/2014 season and played for another season in 2014/2015 before being relegated.
