All Stars poised to beat Aduana

The General Manager of Wa All Stars, Seth Panwum, says the club’s focus is to beat Aduana Stars in their Premier League decider today though they are not desperate to win the title.

He said “we are not desperate to win the Premier League but if the opportunity comes for us to be part of Ghana’s football history, that will not be a bad idea. For now our focus is on today’s game,” Mr Panwum told the Graphic Sports yesterday.

Wa All Stars, who have dominated this season’s league, were toppled by Aduana Stars last Sunday when they were pipped by eleventh-placed Liberty Professionals at the Dansoman Carl Reindorf Park.

That loss paved the way for Aduana Stars who thrashed Techiman City 3-0 at the Nana Ameyaw park at Dormaa-Ahenkro.

Records have it that Aduana Stars have never survived against Wa All Stars at Wa, and against the backdrop of losing 0-1 to the Wa lads at home in the first round, today’s battle will be a make or break affair for either side.

Mr Panwum was, however, upbeat about the chances of Wa All Stars and assured they would not be distracted.

He, therefore, urged fans of the club to put the Dansoman disappointment behind them and troop to the stadium in their numbers to support the team as theyattempt to scale one of the toughest hurdles in their history.

Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko, who are hard on the heels of All Stars and Aduana Stars, managed a win and a draw respectively last Sunday against Ebusua Dwarfs and Medeama SC, raising hopes in their respective camps.

Both clubs are keen on winning their remaining matches, which is why Hearts want to repeat the 0-2 dose they handed to Medeama at the Tarkwa T and A Park when the disappointed CAF Confederation Cup representatives visit the Accra Stadium today.

Similarly, Kotoko, who keep raising the hopes of their followers that they will lift the Premier League trophy but are not able to prove it on the field, still believe all is not yet lost. Knowing what is at stake, the fabulous boys are not leaving anything to chance and against regional rivals Ashgold at their dreaded Len Clay stadium, a lot will be at stake.

As the top four race gets hotter, the relegation battle will be no different with as many as eight clubs namely; Berekum Chelsea, Ashgold, Liberty, Inter Allies, Dwarfs, Hasaacas, Techiman City and New Edubiase, all at risk of being relegated to Division One.

With such danger haunting those clubs, there will be no compromises as Dwarfs, who were unlucky to have lost against Hearts, travel to the Nana Gyamfi park to play New Edubiase.

WAFA also host Chelsea at their fearful Sogakope stadium, while Techiman City welcome Sekondi Hasaacas to their fold at Techiman. Tema-based Inter Allies also play surprise winners Liberty Professionals at Tema, with Bechem United and Dreams FC clashing at Bechem.
