26 Nigeria Under-17s fail age test

Nigerian football is in the midst of devastating crisis after a staggering 26 members of its Under-17 side failed an MRI age test, according to reports.

Africanfootball.com reports that there were 60 starlets examined ahead of a home African Nations’ Cup qualifier against Niger.

A top official has explained Nigeria will only be without many of their stars, but will be missing key players — with only two of the expected starting XI still available.

He said, “It is a disaster.

“Virtually the first team the coaches have been working on have now been disqualified. It’s a serious problem.”

The Nigerian Football Federation is now in chaos with several top members blaming one another over this serious mass failure.

It is understood that among those who failed the age test was a star striker who had come through the Under-15 team and had been outstanding in the build-up to Saturday’s big clash with Niger.

While another had forced his way back into the first team having recently returned from a suspension.

The Confederation of African football (CAF) have ensured there will now be much more transparent tests.

They will be deploying independent doctors and the Nigerian players are now being supervised by an Egyptian medic.

Nigeria have won FIFA Under-17 World Cup five times, most recently in 2015.
