Rasheed to fight Sheedy for C’wealth title

Rasheed to fight Sheedy for C’wealth title

Ghana-trained Nigerian middleweight fighter Abolaji Rasheed will slug it out with Brit, Sam Sheedy for the vacant Commonwealth middleweight title in April 28 at the Platinum Suite, Bramall Lane Football Ground, Sheffield, Yorkshire.

The bout by Denis Hopson Promotions, which was earlier slated for March 26, was rescheduled due to circumstances beyond the control of the organisers.

The bout was put together by the CEO of Landmark Promotions, Anthony Kermah, and the Nigerian Boxing Board of Control Secretary-General.

It is an opportunity for Abolaji,33, to win the vacant title which, subsequently, will push him towards a world title shot.

Rasheed, who has fought 11 times at the professional level, including two losses and a draw, is expected to draw inspiration from fellow Ghanaian trained Nigerian, Isaac Ekpo, whose romance with Ghana got him a world title shot.

According to Anthony Kermah of Landmark Promotions, even though Ghana boxing is seen to be in decline, neighbouring countries still tap the expertise and knowledge of Ghana’s boxing promotional labels such as Landmark Promotions.

“The issue is Ghana boxing is doing better than those of other Africa countries”, he stated.

Sheedy, 28, has fought 19 times professionally, including two losses, and is the favourite for the bout.

But according to Anthomy Kermah, Rasheed will cause a surprise.
