Nii Commey eyes re-election as GAABA boss

Greater Accra Amateur Boxing Association (GAABA) President, Wallace Nii Tackie Commey, has appealed to delegates to retain him to help develop the sport in the upcoming GAABA elections slated for May 17 at the Accra City Engineers premises at James Town in Accra.

The veteran boxing administrator touted his achievements during his tenure in office and promised to do more when elected. He told the Graphic Sports in an interview in Accra that he secured a sponsorship from telecommunications company Vodafone to organise boxing tournament during the Homowo festival and also refurbished some boxing gyms at Bukom and James Town.

According to Mr Commey, he would bring back the GAABA Boxing League if re-elected, and also promised to organise the Mayor Cup in conjunction with countries like Benin, Togo, United Kingdom(UK) and Germany.

Mr Commey noted that one major blight on amateur boxing was the lack of funds to recruit and train talents, as well as to buy equipment for the game.

He appealed to corporate bodies and stakeholders to help survive amateur boxing in the country.

The boxing manager and promoter pledged to form a sponsorship committee to source funds for amateur boxing if elected.
