Central Region GBA to assist amateur boxing — Twintoh Walker

The President of the Central Regional branch of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), Mr Twintoh Walker, has urged the newly established regional boxing committees of the GBA to focus on  unearthing talents from the grass roots to serve as the foundation of boxing in the regions.

He said the Western and Central regions were endowed with boxing talents which must not be allowed to go untapped but identified from the suburbs, districts and constituencies and nurtured.

That, according to Mr Walker, would set the tone for a properly organised league for boxers, as well as boxing clubs to be formed.

In an appointment letter signed by the President of the GBA, Mr Peter Zwennes, for the 11- member regional boxing committee, Mr Walker, who is also in charge of the Western Region as the GBA Boss, told the newly established committee members to reposition themselves for the forthcoming inaugural boxing tournament known as: “A journey to the west.”

He further charged members of the committee to be assertive and participate more in boxing programmes of the respective regional amateur boxing federations, as well as the Regional Sports Authority.

“The GBA committee would embark on a sponsorship drive to raise funds to support amateur boxing tournaments and clubs in the Western and Central regions”, he said and appealed to prominent persons in the two regions to come on board to promote and manage boxing.
