The Assembly last Saturday appointed a three-member Elections Committee and a five-member Disciplinary/Grievance and Dispute Resolution Committee at its Extraordinary Congress held at the Theodosiah Okoh Stadium in Accra.

The members of the Elections Committee are the Managing Director of the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL), Ing Kenneth Ashigbey,  Ghana Boxing Authority president, Peter Zwennes  and  a legal practitioner, Thaddeus Sory.

The  Disciplinary/Grievance and Dispute Resolution Committee comprised an  Appeals Court judge, Justice Issifu Omoro Tanko Amadu; president of the Handball Association of Ghana, Ken Dzirasah; former GOC boss, Benson Tongo Baba; GOC honorary member, Peter Kpordugbey; and former Ghana Rugby Association president, Gifty Annang Myers.

The Elections Committee haves been tasked to receive the nomination forms of persons contesting Executive Board positions in the GOC, while the Disciplinary/Grievance and Dispute Resolution Committee will deal with issues or protests that will arise during the electoral process.

Ing Kenneth Ashigbey, in an interview with the Daily Graphic after the congress, gave an assurance that a new president would  be elected to head the affairs of the GOC on March 15.

"It is a privilege for your peers to repose such trust in you. Considering the fact that there is a lot of perception and mistrust around the task given to the commisision. What we will strive to do is to ensure that there is a lot of transparency and fairness and openness in the whole election process," Mr Ashigbey, who doubles as the vice president of the Ghana Table Tennis Association, said.

"With the help of the Electoral Commission and my two other colleagues who are lawyers, I am sure we will be able to unite the GOC and push forward the development of Ghana sports,” he added.

Nominations for the elections open from February 21 to March 7, 2017 with forms available at the GOC office located at Ridge in Accra.
