Colombian athletes for Millennium Marathon

Two Colombian athletes and their coach have arrived in Accra for tomorrow’s  Millennium Marathon which begins at the Independence Square.

The athletes, Yead Alexander and Andres Camilo, and their coach, Jaier Bazzagner, were welcomed by the Colombian Ambassador to Ghana, Claudia Turbay Quintero.

According to the Ambassador, Alexander and Camilo were brought into the country to compete in the marathon by the Embassy as they look forward to strengthening their sporting ties  with Ghana.

Ambassador Claudia in an interview with the Daily Graphic said "We brought these two athletes from Colombia to participate in the Millennium Marathon as we look to strengthen our sporting relationship with Ghana".

The Millennium Marathon is an annual long distance event which seeks to train and send athletes to world marathon and to the long distance events.

Both Alexander and Camilo promised to give their best when they compete tomorrow, with the former targeting a top-five finish.

They explained that they decided to compete in Africa in order to experience the weather conditions.

Coach Bazzagner, however, confirmed his involvement in the 5000- kilometre race on the day.
