Former President John Dramani Mahama has urged political leaders in Kenya to keep on emphasising their commitment to peaceful elections.

In his capacity as the current Chairperson of the Commonwealth Observer Group to the Kenyan elections, he asked political leaders to constantly reassure the public that they were committed towards a peaceful election.

“Not any single life of a Kenyan should be lost because of a section of people who want to serve the people of Kenya.”

Commitment to peaceful election

“Political leaders must constantly reassure the public that they are committed towards a peaceful election,” Mr Mahama hinted during an interview with the media.

It would be recalled that Kenya’s last election was marked by violence which killed many people.

The recent murders of an electoral IT manager, Chris Msando, and 21-year-old Maryanne Ngumbu have also sparked public outrage about the resurgence of extrajudicial killings in that country.
