We’ll unseat K.T Hammond — Asiedu Nketia

The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has hinted that the party is working hard for the Member of Parliament (MP) for Adansi Asokwa, Mr K. T. Hammond, to lose his seat and prosecute him for the sale of the drill ship sold during the Kufuor administration.

He explained that Mr Hammond, who was a deputy minister in the Kufuor administration and supervised the sale of the drill ship, had been hiding behind parliamentary immunity to escape prosecution but must be assured that he would lose the seat and face the full rigours of the law.

Mr Asiedu Nketia was addressing a large crowd of members of the Volta Caucus at Fumso in the Adansi Asokwa Constituency in the Ashanti Region.

Volta Caucus, which has Madam Dzifa Attivor, the former Minister of Transport, as its leader, is a group of people from the Volta Region who support the NDC but reside outside the Volta Region. Their aim is to engage in house-to-house campaign to garner votes for President John Dramani Mahama and the various parliamentary aspirants.

Adanse Asokwa, just like the New Edubiase Constituency, is a farming community with large numbers of settlers from the Volta and the three northern regions, who usually vote for the NDC. Mr Kofi Yakah is the NDC MP for New Edubiase and he is one of the four NDC MPs in the region.

Skirt and blouse

Mr Asiedu Nketia noted that for fear of losing his seat and facing the legal music, Mr Hammond has resorted to telling the constituents, especially the NDC supporters in the settler communities. to vote for him and vote for President Mahama because “both President Mahama and Asiedu  Nketia are his friends.”

He made it clear that the NDC candidate for the constituency, Mr Evans Amankwah, had worked hard and won the hearts of the voters and would take the seat from Mr Hammond, urging the people not to listen to the lies of Mr Hammond but vote him out.

Meters

He accused Mr Hammond and the NPP of being hypocrites, explaining that the NPP claimed that even the President, who is the chief executive of the country, did not have the authority to ask state agencies to provide individual houses with electricity meters.

Surprisingly, Mr Hammond has been distributing electricity meters belonging to the state to residents in the constituency, claiming he got them through lobbying.

The Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Andy Okra, assured the people in the settler communities not to entertain any fear about being harassed for voting or campaigning for the NDC.

He stated that no one could evict them because they campaigned and voted for the NDC and urged them not to hesitate to inform the party when they felt threatened, adding that “We are in charge of security in this region and we will protect you.”
