President Mahama is  asking for another four-year tenure in the face of global economic recession, though with Ghana steadily making progress. Currently the country is the second largest economy in West Africa.

Addressing a rally at Ashaiman last Friday night, he said Ghana was on the rise due to the bold and effective economic policies implemented by his administration.

"Ghana is moving forward and there is no need to stop the momentum and apply another force to begin to move again,” he stated.

Night rally

President Mahama arrived at the rally grounds at 10 p.m. from the Volta Region where he had inaugurated and spoken at a number of mini-rallies.

The supporters of the NDC in Ashaiman, some of whom had converged from noon, waited until the President arrived deep into the night.

He said contrary to calls for change that had been expressed by opponents, Ghana’s economy was very robust.

"I accepted an IMF programme that transcends an election year because I wanted to make it the last IMF programme that Ghana goes for and  by the grace of God, we are making progress. The economy is stable," he noted.

He urged the electorate to ignore his opponents’ call for change, stressing, "You don't change a winning team."

Destiny

He said the destiny of this country was in the hands of the electorate and come Wednesday,  they had the choice to  turn back the clock of progress or continue moving the country forward.

“I have done my best and the rest is left to Ghanaians to decide on December 7, but I am confident we will make the right decision and vote massively for me.”

He reiterated the number of infrastructural development projects carried out in the country, including the Ashaiman municipality, such as education, health and roads, giving the assurance that his second term of office would focus on job creation and to better the lots of Ghanaians.

President Mahama said the government was making progress with the Klagon to Ashaiman road while plans had been made to construct an overpass across the motorway to prevent vehicles  from using the underpass at a section of the road which was designed as a cattle crossing.

Jobs

On  job creation, President Mahama said the government, through the Port Expansion project and Motorway expansion, was creating jobs for many people in Tema, Ashaiman and its environs.

He said he recently inaugurated a new cement and cocoa processing factory in Tema, in a bid to create more jobs.

The outgoing NDC Member of Parliament for Ashaiman, Mr Alfred Agbesi, who was commended by the President for graciously accepting the outcome of the primary and conceding to Mr Ernest Norgbey, rallied supporters of the party to vote massively for the NDC.

The General Secretary of the party,  Mr Johnson Asiedu-Nketia, urged Ghanaians to retire Nana Akufo-Addo from politics by voting massively for the NDC on December 7.

The President  was accompanied by Mr Asiedu-Nketia, Mr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, Mr Joseph Nii Laryea-Afotey Agbo and Mr Kofi Adams.
