True winners of Election 2016 are Ghanaians
The President, John Dramani Mahama, has said the true winners of the crucial 2016 election are Ghanaians.

He said it was in line with that fact that he decided to congratulate Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on emerging the victor of the election to become the President-elect of the country.
With a solemn voice, the President made these remarks at a news conference at his Cantonments residence, shortly after he placed a formal call to the President-elect to congratulate him on emerging winner of the 2016 elections.
Flanked by his Vice-President, Mr Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, party chairman, Mr Kofi Portuphy, and a handful of ministers of state including the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Mr Haruna Iddrisu, and some party supporters, mostly women, he also called on Ghanaians to rally behind the new president to be able to steer the affairs of the nation successfully.
Subsequently, President Mahama promised to work to ensure a peaceful transition for the incoming administration.
According to the President, every election was a hard fought battle and “this one was no exception.”
In the view of the President, every election was for the people to have their say as to who would lead them to shape the country.
“As a President, I have done my bit to contribute to the political, economic and social development of the country,” he said.
President Mahama, however, indicated that although he would have cherished an opportunity to do even more in terms of infrastructure development across the country, he respected the will of the Ghanaian people.
He expressed his profound thanks to his campaign team, the workers of Ghana, his family and his Vice- President and all for their support in one way or the other during his tenure as the President of the country.
President Mahama said Ghana, the land “as we all own is a powerful nation” with a history of taking the improbable and making it possible.
He said notwithstanding the diversity in ethnic groups, religious faiths and political affiliations “we have always ultimately realised that we are on the same side, the side of Ghana”.
President Mahama said as the country moved forward, although there might be disagreements on issues of governance, “we need to guard our shared destiny and the undeniable power that exists in our unity”.
