This follows a peace accord reached between her and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) youth wing of the municipality who were against her appointment as the MCE for the area.

The youth, at a meeting held in Tamale last Wednesday, agreed to allow the embattled MCE to assume office after a month of protests.

The peace deal between the youth and the MCE was brokered through a direct intervention by a delegation from the Presidency led by the Minister of State at the Presidency in charge of National Security and Member of Parliament (MP) for Abetifi, Mr Bryan Acheampong.

Others included the Northern Regional Minister, Mr Salifu Sa-eed, and the MP for Savelugu, Mr Muhamed Abdul-Samed Gunu, who later introduced her to the crowd that had gathered awaiting the outcome of the meeting.

Hajia Ayishetu who drove in a convoy from Tamale to Savelugu, the municipal capital, received a rousing welcome on her arrival.

Press conference

Later at a press conference held at Savelugu to introduce Hajia Ayishetu to stakeholders in the municipality, the NPP Communications Officer for the Savelugu Constituency, Mr Abubakar Sadiq Sulemana, on behalf of the group, apologised to the President for the protests and demonstrations.

“We believe our message was important, we now concede our approach was wrong,” he stated.

The youth at the press conference also pledged that they would work harmoniously with Hajia Ayishetu as the MCE for Savelugu-Nanton to ensure that the vision of the President and the programme of the government were implemented for the benefit of the area.

They expressed their gratitude to the media for the professional manner in which they carried the message of the people of Savelugu-Nanton and to Mr Acheampong, a Minister of State at the Presidency, for the role he played in resolving the matter.

The youth also pledged their commitment and unflinching support to the President Akufo-Addo administration and stated that they would continue to work with all stakeholders in the governance process to ensure the success of his government.
