Residents will prove whether I slept or not says Akufo-Addo to Mahama

The 2016 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has said residents living in the northern part of the Western Region, who ply the roads in that part of the country on a daily basis, will prove on December 7, whether those roads have been constructed by President Mahama or not.

Reacting to claims by President Mahama, who recently said the NPP presidential candidate did not see good roads in the Western Region because he slept throughout the tour, Nana Akufo-Addo indicated that he would not trade insults with the President, but would rather ‘thank’ him for his comments, and would await the verdict of the Ghanaian people in this year’s elections.

These were contained in a statement from the party.

The NPP flag bearer said this when he was addressing commercial drivers and business owners at the Achimota charcoal station last Friday.

Concerns put forward

Among the concerns put forward to the NPP flag bearer by the leadership of the driver’s union at the Achimota charcoal station were the high cost of insurance premiums, the high cost of fuel and the bad nature of the roads in several parts of the country.

In response, Nana Akufo-Addo noted that “our President says he has constructed a lot of roads under his watch. When I went on my tour of the Western Region, I didn’t see any of the so-called roads he has constructed. All I saw and travelled on were dusty and unmotorable roads. The President says I did not see any good roads because I was probably sleeping. I have nothing to say, but to thank him for these remarks.”

The NPP flag bearer added that “you (drivers) are the ones who travel on these roads, so you will bear testimony to what I am saying. If bad roads constitute one of your major concerns, then between President Mahama and myself, who is the liar? Which of us is lying to Ghanaians?”

Akufo-Addo confident

Nana Akufo-Addo expressed confidence that Ghanaians would not allow themselves to be lied to by an incompetent and desperate government in this election year.

Touching on the unprecedented achievements being bandied about by President Mahama and his functionaries, the NPP flag bearer wondered why the President was going around the country at the expense of the taxpayer distributing goodies to voters.

“Mr President, if you have truly worked for the people of Ghana, there will be no need for you or your wife to be sharing goodies to the people. If things were truly well in Ghana, would there be any need for your wife to be distributing sewing machines? If you, as husbands, were well off under this government, won’t you have your own resources to buy sewing machines for your wives?” he asked.

Nana Akufo-Addo was, however, certain that the Ghanaian electorate had seen through the lies, and would cast their vote based on their living conditions.

“We need a government and a leader who is coming into office to implement good policies and programmes that will create jobs, fix our broken monetary system, and root out corruption. That is what the good people of Ghana need,” he said.
