President Mahama rounds off campaign tour of North

President John Mahama rounded off his four-day campaign tour of the Northern Region yesterday, convinced that Ghanaians would endorse him for a second term.

He said the massive response he received during the tour of the region was yet another sign of the victory ahead for the NDC in the December 7 elections.

The last leg of the President's re-election campaign tour took him to Saboba, Gushegu, Karaga and Chereponi, where he addressed well-attended rallies of NDC supporters and residents.

‘Vote massively for NDC’

President Mahama reiterated his call on the people of the Northern Region to vote massively for him and the party’s parliamentary candidates in the region, to enable him to continue with his transformational agenda.

He also assured the people in the Eastern Corridor area of the region, who are predominantly farmers, that farmer service centres would be established to enhance their activities.

President Mahama told the cheering crowd at Saboba that the government had imported 500 tractors to support farmers in their activities to make farming easier.

That, he said, formed part of the government's effort to modernise agriculture, ensure food security and enhance the incomes of farmers.

President Mahama stated that his government was committed to the total development of the country.

He would, therefore, ensure that roads linking food production areas to the marketing centre were in good shape, to enable farmers to send their produce to the markets.

The President said his government would upgrade the Saboba township roads to befit the town’s status as a district capital.

He said roads leading to farming communities in the district would be upgraded.

President Mahama also pledged to construct two concrete bridges over River Oti on the Saboba-Yendi road and also provide buses for the two senior high schools in the area: the Saboba Evangelical Presbyterian SHS and St Joseph Technical and Vocational institute, to facilitate academic work.

The President, on his arrival at Saboba, paid a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of the area, Cheek Binalibemi Kanbonja, at his palace.
