President Mahama,NDC must account for Woyome’s money — NPP

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed dismay at the report that the Attorney-General is unable to pursue the retrieval of the taxpayer’s money that was paid to Mr Alfred Woyome as far back as 2010.

A statement  signed by the Director of Communications, Nana Akomea, in Accra said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government itself had admitted that the payments to Mr Woyome were wrong, unjustified and undeserved.

It expressed regret that no NDC official involved in this gargantuan loss of the taxpayer’s money had been punished or prosecuted since the scandal was uncovered.

Court ruling

Mr Woyome obtained a court ruling which asked the government to pay him a judgement debt of GH¢52.2 million for a job he executed for the government.

Per the solo efforts of Mr Martin Amidu, the Supreme Court in 2014 ordered that the money should be retrieved. It described the payment as a scheme to create, loot and share the taxpayer’s money.

President Mahama and his government did not seek an order for payment with interest despite the Supreme Court ruling.

“Two years after the order for the greatly devalued GH¢52.2 million to be retrieved, President Mahama has not managed to take even a pesewa from Mr Woyome”.

“The little hope Ghanaians have that our money will be retrieved has been dashed by the withdrawal of the Attorney-General from further pursuit of the retrieval of the money”.

“The NPP and Ghanaians cannot allow this corruption and wanton loss of the taxpayer’s money to continue.

“We demand that President Mahama and his government should retrieve the full value of our money, otherwise the party intends to lead Ghanaians in street protests”.

“Create, loot and share cannot be rewarded.  President Mahama must account for our money or be shown the red card the statement concluded”.
