The objective of the forum is to create a platform for all political parties contesting the election to endeavour to exhibit maturity and decorum in their deeds and utterances as the 2016 general election approaches.

The forum is being organised by the Ecumenical and Social Relations (ESR) Committee of the church and is on the theme: “Be of one mind, live in peace.”

Renowned speakers

The Chairman of the Communication Board of PCG, Mr GBK Owusu, said five renowned speakers had been invited to address the forum.

They are Rt Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Martey, the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana; Mrs Charlotte Osei, the Electoral Commissioner; Prof. Kwame Karikari, Dean of Communication Studies, Wisconsin University; Mr Alexander Kaakyire Duku Frempong, a Senior Lecturer at the Political Science Department, University of Ghana, Legon; and Sheikh Awal Larry, a Muslim cleric.

Mr Owusu deplored the campaign of insults, intimidation and beating of war drums and urged all political parties to discontinue indulging in that practice.

Good manifesto

“Elections are won with good manifestos and policies and all those who are seeking powers must concentrate on that,” Mr Owusu stated.

He said the time and energy being wasted to attack political opponents must be used to find solutions to the myriad of problems confronting the nation.

Mr Owusu called for reconciliation and tolerance during and after the general election.

He expressed the hope that the forum would inspire and encourage Ghanaians to be tolerant and coexist peacefully during and after the December 7 election.

ESR coordinator

The ESR coordinator for the Madina District, Mr Francis Afoh, said “Ghana had set a good example for democratic governance and that must continue”.

He said for any nation to develop economically and achieve stability, the people must live in peace and unity.

“This is the reason why we are organising this forum to find ways to ensure a credible, free and fair election,” Mr Afoh said.

Mr Afoh said the forum would take place at the auditorium of the Presbyterian Church, Faith Congregation, during forenoon and invited Christian and Muslim leaders, politicians, non-governmental organisations, traditional leaders, security officers and members of the media and academia to attend and help spread the peace message.
