PPP holds final rally at Elmina, says ‘It’s time to vote wisely’

The Presidential Candidate of the Progressive People's Party (PPP), Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, yesterday climaxed his 2016 electioneering with a massive rally that brought Elmina in the Central Region to a standstill.

The rally was held at the Kobena Gyan Square and supporters of the party trooped to the open centre to participate in it.

As of 3 p.m., an hour before the start of the event, the venue was heavily choked, making it extremely difficult for those who stood in front of the mounted podium to make an exit.

Before the rally, Dr Nduom had paid a visit to the Kotokuraba and Abura markets in Cape Coast to interact with the traders.

He used the visit to thank the traders for the support they had given him and his party at the start of the PPP's campaign tour early this year.

He dubbed his final campaign rally: "Thank you rally".

All set for victory

Before Dr Nduom gave his final election message, he thanked all Ghanaians for the love and support they had shown him, especially during his legal battle with the Electoral Commission (EC).

He said he and his party were grateful for the various roles played by citizens during his campaign tours that took him to all the 275 constituencies.

Tagging his last campaign message as ‘It is time to vote wisely’, Dr Nduom called on the voting population to turn their attention to the PPP, considering the fact that it was the only party that had the right team to make Ghana strong again.

"We have come far since we started the campaign. This is the time to rise up and show up at the various polling centres to vote for the PPP," he said.

He told the large gathering that they would do the nation a great disservice if they voted for either the NDC or the NPP.

Bad leadership

He said all the challenges facing Ghana's economy were culminating results of bad leadership by the NDC and the NPP, adding that the country was poor because of the two parties.

"We now have another opportunity to choose a better and qualified leader who has what it takes to lead the nation. Let's turn our attention to the PPP," he said.

While reminding Ghanaian voters of the PPP's policies should the party win the election, he said the focus would be on job creation, free and compulsory education, a better health system and the efficient distribution of state resources.

On job creation, Dr Nduom attributed the high unemployment rate in the country to President John Mahama's unwillingness to make job creation his major priority.

"President Mahama has failed the nation big time when it comes to jobs. You cannot maintain him," he said.

On what the PPP intended to do to address the problem, he said his administration would build more factories and create an economy in which businesses would thrive.

"This is no joke because I have already done this for my company the GN conglomerate. We have sent a bank to every district in Ghana and we are in the process of building our second rice mill in Ghana," he said.

Concerning the other policies, he said his party would fulfill every single promise made to Ghanaians, adding that "the PPP is not like the other parties telling you lies to win your votes".

"Just bring the PPP to power and you will never regret voting for us," he added.
