PPP has best education policy — Nduom

The flag bearer of the Progressive People's Party (PPP), Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, has said that his party's policy for the education sector "is what Ghana urgently needs to prepare the young generation adequately for the future".

He has, therefore, called on the electorate to reject the other policies being promised by his contenders because they lacked the basics to position the youth for the future "we greatly desire".

Addressing the electorate at Dabala during his Volta Regional campaign tour, Dr Nduom said if elected, he would introduce a complete educational reform that would make the country's education sector one of the best globally.

"What the PPP is offering is not what the other parties are thinking about. Our quality education begins from kindergarten. We will offer a compulsory aspect of free education from kindergarten to the senior high level. This is the key to ensuring that every Ghanaian child is enrolled in school" he said.

Earlier, Dr Nduom also addressed supporters of PPP at Sege in the Greater Accra Region and Asutuare in the Eastern Region.

He used the occasion to outline some of the policies the PPP would implement should the party win the presidential seat.

Dr Nduom is on his last phase of his 2016 electioneering campaign tour which will take him to all the 10 regions in the country.

Complete package

Despite the formulation of the Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education (FCUBE) policy many years ago to ensure that every child is given equal access to education, successive governments have failed to implement it.

Dr Nduom and his party have been major campaigners for the implementation of the FCUBE.

In 2014, the party filed a writ at the Supreme Court in a bid to compel government to enforce aspects of the policy. However, the case was dismissed.

Explaining why Ghana needed the FCUBE, Dr Nduom argued that compulsory education was key to empowering the citizenry and not free education or expanding access to educational facilities being promised by the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress.

He noted that enforcing the policy was a sure way of making the “nation strong and its people prosperous.”

Under his presidency, Dr Nduom said he would build more schools and provide a conducive environment where the potential of every child could be harnessed.

"We need the children to get the best foundation to prepare them for the future. That is why a PPP government would go beyond access to provide a complete package," he said.

Dr Nduom also said he would not allow the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) to determine the fate of any Ghanaian, as his administration would cancel that.

"Just give PPP four years and we will make Ghana the envy of many nations, " he added.
