PNC, APC introduce running mates
The All Peoples Congress (APC) and the Peoples National Convention (PNC) have named their running mates for the upcoming presidential election.

While the APC selected Mr Emmanuel Carl Bartels, a chartered accountant, as its running mate to Mr Hasan Ayariga last Saturday, the PNC selected Harvard-trained economist, Mr Emmanuel Anyidoho, to partner Dr Edward Mahama.
PNC settles on running mate
A five-member committee mandated by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the PNC settled on a suitable running mate for the party after deliberations and consultations.
The choice, according to a press statement signed by the party’s National Chairman, Mr Bernard Mornah, was hugely influenced by his humility, grasp of the Ghanaian situation and his exemplary and visionary leadership.
Mr Anyidoho has in the past worked with the United Nations (UN), the African Union (AU), the Ministry of Finance and also lectured at the University of Ghana.
“He comes to the table with a lot of experience to complement the exceptional and impeccable record of Dr Edward Nasigrie Mahama,” the statement added.
APC candidate
The APC presidential candidate, Dr Hassan Ayariga, declared Mr Bartels as his running mate at the party’s headquarters in Accra, last Saturday.
The 64-year-old, who hails from Elimina in the Central Region, was a First National Vice-Chairman of the party before his appointment.
A member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ghana and Nigeria, Mr Bartels has 17 years’ working experience in accountancy.
In declaring Mr Bartels as his running mate, Dr Ayariga said with the support of his competent and capable running mate, the party had all it takes to rescue the country from its economic crisis.
He, therefore, urged voters and Ghanaians at large to reject the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and vote for the APC to turn the economy around.
He added that APC would also pursue the concept of an all-inclusive government to ensure that there was unity at the political front to enhance development.
“I will help with my experience”
In his acceptance speech, Mr Bartels thanked the APC for the opportunity to take up such a challenge, saying “with God all things are possible”.
“We have excellent academicians, excellent public officials regarding their area of study, but we are coming in with something that is above all these; we are coming in with wisdom and understanding of the way of life of the ordinary man in Ghana,” he said.
Concerned about the plight of the ordinary man in the country, he said an APC government would redeem the economy of Ghana from its challenges if voted into power, adding that he would bring to bear his 17 years’ experience in accountancy to help fix the economy.
“We are going to solve the economics of the ordinary man, the economy of the ordinary man in Ghana, that is the approach and I think we will succeed if the people of Ghana elect the APC,” he said.
