Parties, leaders wish Muslims well

Muslims throughout the country yesterday marked the end of Eid-ul-Fitr with prayers for the peace of the country.

Eid-Ul-Fitr, otherwise known as "feast of the breaking of the fast," is an important festivity celebrated by Muslims all over the world to mark the end of the holy month of fasting.

It is characterised by merrymaking, alms-giving and the observance of Eid Prayers to thank Almighty Allah for seeing Muslims through the holy month of Ramadan, during which time they intensified their supplications and good deeds.

NPP congratulates Muslims

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has lauded Muslims for successfully completing their month-long Ramadan fast and wished them a happy Eid Mubarak.

"It is hoped that they are able to maintain this same lifestyle in the other 11 months of the year since the Allah they served in the month of Ramadan is the same Allah today and forever," the statement signed by the party’s acting General Secretary, Mr John Boadu, said.

The party implored the youth to "exercise significant moderation and circumspection in their celebrations so that at the end of the day no injury is recorded or no life is lost."

“The NPP is also happy to observe that this year's Ramadan was devoid of the legendary 'dumsor crisis' and killer economic conditions which made it uncomfortable for the Ghanaian Muslim to exercise this religious right,” the statement said.

The NPP in the statement called on Muslims to use the important occasion to pray for the government of Ghana, under the leadership of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as well as Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, to be able to work to fulfil the desires of Ghanaians.

The statement added that: “the NPP also calls on Muslims to commit the nation and every single Ghanaian into the good hands of Almighty Allah for His mercy and grace.”

NDC wishes Muslims well

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) also extended its warmest felicitations to all Muslims as they celebrated the Eid-ul-Fitr.

“On this occasion, the NDC congratulates you for the sacrifices you made through the month- long fasting and prayers,” the NDC stated.

In a statement signed by the party’s General Secretary, Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the party commended Muslims for the dedication and commitment they attached to the exercise, especially their resolve to pray for peace, stability and development for the nation and the world at large.

The NDC also commended Muslims for their conduct which had resulted in religious tolerance and coexistence among all faiths in the country.

This, the party noted, had promoted the congenial atmosphere and subsequent socio-economic development.

The NDC therefore reiterated its commitment to collaborate with all muslims in preaching tolerance and peaceful coexistence as a means of enhancing unity needed to deepen the country’s democracy which has become the envy of Africa and other democratic countries across the globe.

It also urged all Ghanaians to use the occasion to rekindle the patriotic spirit and resist all attempts by individuals or groups to derail the path of the country’s democracy that has become an envy among the comity of democratic states.

The Greater Accra Regional branch of the NDC extended their fraternal greetings of peace and blessings to all Muslims in the Greater Accra Region as they marked Eid ul-Fitr celebration yesterday.

A statement by the NDC said: “On the occasion of the Eid ul-Fitr festivity, which is a celebration of one month of devotion and obedience to the will of Allah, the Greater Accra Regional Branch of the NDC wishes to extend fraternal greetings of peace and blessings to all Muslims in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana, especially the Zongo Caucus of our great party.”

“We also commend all Muslims for their selflessness and commitment towards unity and peaceful co-existence among all faiths in the region,” the statement added.

The statement also urged all Ghanaians in the region to pray for the prosperity of the nation and rededicate themselves to the virtues and ideals of peace, love, honesty, justice, equity, piety, humility and service to mankind, as there is no doubt that a greater manifestation of these virtues and ideals in our lives will immensely help us to become a more united, peaceful, secure and progressive nation. Let us use this occasion to forgive those who have wronged us in one way or other.

JOY extends fraternal greetings

The 2016 Independent Presidential Candidate, Mr Jacob Osei-Yeboah (aka JOY) also extended fraternal greetings to Muslims, especially the youth, for a successful end of the Ramadan and wished them well.

A statement issued on the occasion of the end of the Ramadan said Allah had once again brought an end to Ramadan quite peacefully in Ghana.

Mr Osei-Yeboah in the statement said Ghanaians joined the Muslim brotherhood for the mercies and kindness of Allah towards Ghanaians and Muslims.

“I wish all of you a pleasant day. Please remember my favourite quotation in the Quran: ‘Allah ta'aalaa will never change His blessings and the fortunes of a people unless the people take the initiative to change themselves. For surely Allah will never change the grace which He hath bestowed on a people until they change what is in their (own) souls; and verily Allah is He Who heareth and knoweth (all things).  (Qur'aan: Al-Anfaal, 8:53),” he stated.

Greenstreet wishes Muslims well

Relatedly, the 2016 Flag Bearer of the Convention People’s Party, Mr Ivor Kobina Greenstreet, has wished all Muslims around the country and the world happy Eid.

In a statement, he said “Allah has seen us through a very successful and incident free Ramadan”, and “it is important that we thank Him for this.

He urged all Muslims to exhibit good behaviour and a sense of patriotism now that “we have confessed and begged Allah to forgive us our sins”.

“The old life that led us into temptation and sin should be avoided and must be replaced with good deeds as the Holy Quran recommends,” he concluded.
