"Despite the political propaganda, NDC will never abandon the Volta Region," President Mahama said as he rounded off his five-day campaign tour of the region last Saturday.

At a rally at Aflao, the President said, "Since I announced that I was coming to Volta Region to continue the campaign tour,  there has been a lot of political propaganda.  But, it is obvious that all that propaganda falls flat because it is not based on reality.

"Ketu South has always stood by the NDC government and I wish to express my appreciation for it," he added.

The Aflao rally ground was packed with supporters of the NDC.

In Ketu South, the constituency that had consistently pulled the biggest votes for the NDC in elections,  President Mahama laid out a vision to advance the development process of the constituency.

With the rally ground bursting at the seams with enthusiastic supporters, the President persistently punctuated his address with the "JM toaso" chants with the crowd responding in like manner.

The huge number of supporters had waited for hours at the border town eager to listen to their party's presidential candidate for the December polls and when he finally arrived, the atmosphere became charged  as Shatta Wale's "Mahama Paper" boomed from the loud speakers.

Remain focused

He advised the party supporters to remain focused and work harder to clinch victory in the election.

Taking a look at the development that had taken place in the region under his NDC government,  the President said they were a testament of the government’s commitment to improve the lives of the people.

He disclosed that plans were already in place to build a nursing and midwifery training school at Aflao.

President Mahama said  a $40 million sea defence project under construction at Aflao was on course.

Money in pockets

President Mahama indicated  that the implementation of the Economic Transformation and Livelihood Empowerment Programme  (ETLEP ) in his next term as promised in the NDC’s manifesto would help in putting money in people's pockets.

"Money cannot go into your pockets if you do not work for it first. And so government's responsibility is to provide our young people with skills so that they can enter the world of work,  earn money and put it into their pockets," he stated.

He had  a word of advice for the people."Let nobody deceive you, that any government would come into office and line all Ghanaians up and take money and start distributing to all Ghanaians. It won’t happen".

The government’s responsibility,  he explained,  was to create the enabling environment for the private sector to be able to employ more people, while government also empowered the people with skills training to enable them to earn a living.

Present was the Paramount Chief of the Aflao Traditional Area, Togbui Amenya Fiti V.

President Mahama also held durbars and rallies at Denu, Klikor and  Abor, and inaugurated the Akatsi-Ziope road.
