The Vice-President, Mr Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, who inaugurated the taskforce at Agona Swedru in the Central Region last Friday, declared operation 60 per cent for President John Mahama and 20 parliamentary seats for the NDC in the region.

Agona Swedru went agog when the Vice-President’s convoy entered the town. Scores of NDC supporters thronged the Agona Swedru sports stadium where a mini-rally was held to unveil the regional campaign taskforce.

NDC disciples

Mr Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, who inaugurated the taskforce, charged the NDC supporters in the region and the country as a whole to be disciples of the NDC’s good works.

He stressed the need for party supporters to familiarise themselves with the ‘green book’ which outlined the numerous development projects of the NDC administration in order to enable them to counter false claims against the government.

The Vice-President outlined some of the major development projects initiated by the NDC government in the region including the Komenda Sugar factory, the reconstruction of the Kotokuraba Market, the Cape Coast Sports Stadium and the Elmina Fish Processing Factory.

Chanting the NDC’s slogan ‘eye zu, eye za’ to a thunderous response from cheering party supporters, Mr Amissah-Arthur, who set a 60 per cent target of the presidential votes and 20 parliamentary seats for the NDC, asked the rank and file of the party to close their ranks to ensure a one-touch victory.

Taskforce members

The taskforce is made of the Central Regional Chairman of the NDC, Mr Allotey Jacobs, as chairman and Mr Cassiel Ato Forson, a Deputy Finance Minister, as the campaign coordinator.

Other members are Mr E.K.T. Addo, Mrs Sati Ocran and Messrs Kwesi Dawood, Nana Brew Butler, Sampson Ahianyo and  Kofi Siaman.

Other speakers

The National Organiser of the NDC, Mr Kofi Adams, who doubles as the party’s campaign coordinator for the 2016 elections, called on supporters across the country to ignore what he described as the ‘ugly’ noises from its opponents but rather concentrate on winning the election.

He took issues with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) when he said the party criticised every single development project President Mahama initiated and said the forebears of the NPP did same to Ghana’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, when they attempted to sabotage development projects initiated by the Nkrumah government.

He used the occasion to launch the Agona West Constituency campaign task- force under the chairmanship of Mr Eric Mpota and Samuel Oppong as the campaign coordinator.

A member of the Council of State, Mrs Ama Benyiwa-Doe; the Central Regional Minister, Mr Kweku Ricketts-Hagan; the Regional campaign Coordinator, Mr Ato Forson, and a leading member of the NDC, Madam Faustina Nelson, also addressed the rally.
