The Chairman of the Upper West UCF, Mr Ben N. Banye, said whether or not candidates won the positions they sought, the party needed the efforts of everybody rather than just the elected executive in the effort to retain power in 2016.

The NDC's Upper West delegates recently elected Matthew Sung-Aabu as Regional Chairman of the party in a contest that featured five candidates for the chairmanship. The hotly contested race saw incumbent and five-term Chairman, Alhaji Malik Issahaku, cede his seat to Mr Sung-Aabu.

While congratulating the newly elected chairman and his executives, Mr Banye said in a statement that: "We call on them to put aside the past, rally their supporters and energies behind the new chairman and his new regional executive to build a strong party to neutralise the opposition in the 2016 presidential and parliamentary elections.”

"To those who lost (during) the election, especially the four who missed the chairmanship race, we congratulate them on the competitive and dramatic spirit displayed by them on the election day."

The United Cadres Front assured the regional chairman and his new executive of its support, stating that: "We will put our network and experience both at the constituency and regional levels at the disposal of the new executive to build a vibrant party towards the 2016 elections.”

"We also extend same to those who won various positions in the elections, and urge them to stand solidly by the new chairman to build a strong party for the future," the statement added.
