The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Sissala West Constituency, Mr Patrick Al-Hassan Adamah, has lamented the general poor conditions of living in the constituency.

He said both Sissala West and East constituencies had been neglected by previous governments but was confident that the current government under the leadership of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo would bring relief to the two sister constituencies.

In an interview with the Daily Graphic, Mr Al-Hassan placed premium on education, job creation and road rehabilitation and reconstruction as the ones to improve standard of living in the two constituencies.

Giving the opportunity, he said, those priority projects, would be implemented, to considerably improve the living conditions in the otherwise deprived constituency.

Mr Al-Hassan Adamah said he would continue to work hard to explain government policies to the people to speed up the pace of development.

Education

On education, the MP pledged to use his common fund to help improve standards in the constituency.

He said he was already in discussions with the Ministry of Education (MOE)  to lobby for enhanced educational facilities in the constituency.

Presently, he disclosed, the MOE had signed a contract for the construction of Fielmua Senior Technical School in the constituency.

He bemoaned the poor state of educational facilities in the constituency saying, “The constituency can only boast of the Hilla Limann Senior High School and a yet-to-be completed Community Day Senior High Model School which was started under the John Mahama administration.”

He said the constituency produced the worst West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results in the region and “we need to grab education and turn it around for the benefit of the constituents”.

He also identified the lack of teachers and shortage of exercise and textbooks among the challenges facing the constituency saying, “The dropout rate is so high and alarming.”

He was, however, hopeful that with the commencement of the free senior high school (SHS) education from September 2017,  many parents and students would be relieved of the burden of paying fees and acquiring other school needs.

“I am inundated with request of fees by many parents and students and certainly the government’s flagship programme of providing free SHS to students will go a long way to assist,” he stated.

Jobs/employment creation

On jobs and employment creation, Mr Al-Hassan said there was light at the end of the tunnel.

He said with the introduction of the Planting for Food and Jobs Policy, many of the youth in the constituency had decided to go into farming.

Legacy

Mr Al-Hassan said over the years, he had dedicated his personal resources to the well-being of the constituents, saying; “I did it before the 2012 election and also did it in the 2016 election”.

Furthermore, he indicated that he had constructed 26 boreholes for the Sissala West Constituency and two for Sissala East while he had undertaken the repairs of more than 200 non-functional boreholes in the two sister constituencies.

“I want my constituents to remember me as their MP who made a big difference in their lives in terms of development projects,” he stressed.
