The Volta Regional Minister, Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, said that during the swearing-in of 16 out of 25 MDCEs and added that the agenda for transforming and developing the region and the nation as a whole had taken full gear which required the municipal and district chief executives to lead the growth agenda by tapping resources in the region.

“I will urge you all to immediately start taking proactive action on the various development policies of the government especially, the ‘one-district, one-factory’ and ‘Planting for Food and Jobs’ programmes to ensure their total success in your districts,” Dr Letsa said.

No hasty decision

He, however, cautioned them not to take hasty decisions that would violate the various acts of parliament and legislative instructions related to their work.

“A bad decision hastily taken today although for a good cause may come to haunt you in a few months or years’ time, therefore you must always make informed decisions,” he said.

The MDCEs, he said, should study the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921) and adhere to them strictly to enable them to utilise and manage assembly resources properly, since a violation of the act would have dire consequences on their person and office.

The Volta Regional Co-ordinating Council, he stated, was to organise a sensitisation workshop for the MDCEs to keep them abreast of details of the act.

The region out of the 25 positions had endorsed 16 with seven outright rejections and two others given the opportunity for a second chance to be confirmed.

For the seven rejected including North Tongu, South Tongu, Akatsi South, South Dayi, Adaklu, Hohoe and Biakoye, Dr Letsa announced that his outfit had officially informed the minister for local government and rural development to pave the way for the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to nominate new persons for the positions.

For those confirmed, the regional minister said, it should be a motivation for them to perform creditably without being prodded because “there are a number of interested people on the touchline ready to take over your positions if you fail”.
