Mahama takes swipe at media in Twitter post

Former President John Dramani Mahama has aimed a sly dig at the local media, claiming some media houses in the country have shifted focus from national issues to matters relating to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

His comments come after a section of the media put out contents from the Prof. Kwesi Botchwey report which they claim to have intercepted.

The NDC has, however, denied making the content of the report public, with the party vehemently stating that whatever is out there is a fake report.

Former President Mahama also appears to have weighed in and sarcastically suggested that some media houses in the country have relegated national issues and are rather focusing on a report whose authenticity they are not even sure of.

Accordingly, he said some media houses have adopted the Prof. Botchwey report as "a handbook" and have made it their guide to solving national issues.

In a series of tweets, Mr Mahama wrote: "It appears the ‘KB report’ has been adopted by some media houses a as the new handbook for any challenge facing GH." He later added amidst three laughing emojis: "In the event of crisis, open any page and quote. Lol."

Background

The Prof. Botchwey Committee was formed by the NDC’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and approved by its Council of Elders to investigate the cause of the party’s defeat in the 2016 election.

The committee, chaired by a Former Minister of Finance and ex-Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission, Prof. Botchwey, was tasked to conduct hearings among the rank and file of the party, as well as solicit views from members of the party across the country for review and restructuring of the party.

The committee was also expected to “review and validate the results of the 2016 presidential and parliamentary elections and find out the causes of the poor performance of the NDC in both the presidential and parliamentary elections, as well as to deal with other matters reasonably related to the above objectives and to make recommendations to the NEC about the way forward.”
