Madam Latifa upbeat about winning parliamentary election in December

The Bolgatanga Central Constituency parliamentary candidate for the Convention People's Party(CPP),Madam Latifa Abdul-Rahman, is upbeat about winning the parliamentary election on December 7, 2016.

According to her, this time around the electorate in the constituency would vote massively for a female candidate to tackle issues that affected women and the youth as well as other development challenges of the constituency.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region last Tuesday, the female aspirant expressed the conviction that her chances were bright and that she was unperturbed facing male aspirants in the contest.

Madam Latifa was of the view that this year's parliamentary election would be different because the electorate were now looking for a change and that the CPP was capable of offering the electorate that change they needed.

Contribution                                    

Touching on her contribution to the constituency, Madam Latifa,30, who was born and bred at Soe, a suburb of Bolgatanga said she had contributed in various ways to the development of her constituency. As a teacher, she has organised free extra classes for students as well as supported a good number of brilliant, needy students in her constituency.

She is also very passionate about organising clean-up campaigns with women's groups, giving herbal products such as mustard seed, cinnamon stocks and powder free of charge to the sick and needy in her constituency. As a way of helping her constituency members she sells herbal products on credit to people who pay back over many months.

"I have been very concerned about the lack of school furniture, lack of community libraries, teaching and learning materials for schools, among other problems," the female aspirant observed.

She pointed out that other challenges faced in her constituency included the lack of motivation of teachers, teenage pregnancy, school dropout rate, poor sanitation, open defaecation, poor health care, unemployment, low participation of women in leadership roles and poor farming methods among other challenges.

Madam Latifa expressed optimism that all those challenges could be addressed one after another and emphasised that she would get the nod as the Member of Parliament for the constituency.

Vision                                           

Madam Latifa noted that she equally had a vision of building the human resource base of women and the youth in her constituency.

In that regard, she intended supporting communities in the constituency to build small community libraries, provide classroom furniture, institute best teacher awards schemes as a way of motivating teachers in the constituency as well as provide teaching and learning materials to less endowed schools in the constituency.

Madam Latifa also wants to empower women by liaising with non-governmental organisations to support them to go into small scale businesses as a strategy to address poverty issues among women.

She intends to further build the capacities of women in various ways.

Meanwhile, the Upper East Regional Chairman of the CPP,  Alhaji Baba Fuseini, has said that he is also optimistic that the Bolgatanga Central Constituency seat will be won by the CPP and that the party would win more seats in the region in the December polls.

Madam Latifa holds a Bachelor's in Education and a Master’s in Educational Administration and Management from the University of Education,Winneba.

As a professional teacher, she  has taught in the Kugadoone Nursery at Soe, the Winkogo Junior High School and the Saint Louis Junior High School at Zaare.The female aspirant currently teaches at the Yorogo Asorogobiisi Islamic Primary School. She is also the Upper East Regional Manager of the Network for Sustainable Poverty Alleviation in Ghana(NESPAG).Madam Latifa is also a herbal medicine agent and above all actively involved in political activities.
