Linda elected MP for Shai Osudoku

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Shai Osudoku, Mrs Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, has been elected as the Member of Parliament.

She polled 20,114 votes to beat three other contenders namely, Mr Stephen Nene Oyortey of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who garnered 6,518 votes, Mr Emmanuel Maatey Tetteh of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), who polled 3,203 votes and Mr Solomon Dorh, who stood on the ticket of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) and got 154 votes.

Total valid votes cast were 29,989 with rejected ballots being 298. A total of 30,287 represented total votes cast.

Acceptance speech

The Returning Officer of the Shai Osudoku Constituency, Mr Albert Asiedu, declared Mrs Ocloo the winner of the polls and introduced her to a cheering crowd.

In her acceptance speech, Ms Ocloo thanked the constituents for their votes and promised to create job opportunities for them.

Accident

Mrs Ocloo stood on the ticket of the NDC after her husband, Mr William Ocloo, who was then the aspirant, died in a road accident in May 2016.

He was said to have died on the spot in the crash which occurred at Juaso in the Asante Akyem South District of the Ashanti Region.

Mr Ocloo was said to have had a head-on crash with another vehicle, whose driver also died.

The accident was said to have been caused by an articulated truck which was overtaking two cars in a curve around Twedie near Juaso and lost control, causing the two cars to run into each other while trying to avoid the truck.

Presidential results

Meanwhile, provisional results from a total of 91 polling stations in the Shai Osudoku Constituency in the Greater Accra Region recorded the following presidential results: CPP – 91, NDP – 187, NDC - 20,724, PPP – 270, NPP - 8,385, PNC – 15 and the independent candidate - 16

Total valid votes cast was 29,688, representing 66.87 per cent.

A total number of 657 votes were rejected.
