‘Let us emulate USA election success’
The Ewe Community Chief of Saapeiman in the Ga West Municipality, Togbe Agah Semaglo I, has stressed that Ghanaians have to emulate the good example set by Americans in their recent election.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic in Accra, Togbe Semaglo I noted that losers of the 2016 presidential election should not hesitate to congratulate the ultimate winner after the Electoral Commission had declared the results as it happened in the USA.
He said it was heartwarming when Mrs Hillary Clinton phoned Trump to congratulate him, and also enviable to hear Trump also commending Mrs Clinton for her confidence and the keen competition that took place in America during the election.The chief noted that it was when losers accepted defeat that peace reigned but mere pronouncements before election that “we want peace by politicians do not themselves bring peace”.
The chief advised losing candidates in all constituencies to congratulate winners as early as possible for peace to reign across the country.
The Saapeiman Ewe Community Chief also noted that it was when winners over-jubilated and teased losers that fights occured. He, therefore, forewarned politicians to be moderate in their victory jubilation and to avoid provoking losers who would be in distress after the polls.
Togbe Semaglo stressed that if we emulate Americans and avoid gossips, lies and provocations, we would come out with peaceful elections that majority of Ghanaians are yearning for.
He urged the media to be circumspect, factual, objective and fair in their reportage in order not to throw the nation into confusion.
The chief further said as Christmas approached when the birthday of the prince of peace would be celebrated, what the nation expected was nothing but peace.
He congratulated Americans and President-elect Donald Trump and wished him long life, good health, wisdom and a successful reign.
He appeated to all stakeholders including the EC, the media, the security, political parties leaders and followers, observers, party agents, polling station officers and collation centre staff to perform their duties professionally for the nation to come out with a successful election that everybody including the international Community would be proud of.
