Keta NDC targets 47,000 votes for Mahama

The Keta Constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is targeting 47,000 votes, representing 97.4 per cent valid votes, for President John Dramani Mahama in this year’s election.

Relatedly, it has also targeted 45,000 votes, representing 95 per cent valid votes, for its parliamentary candidate.

Throwing light on the party’s preparation towards the elections slated for December 7, the incumbent NDC MP for the constituency, Mr Richard Quarshiga, said he was passionate about the seaport at Keta which was in the NDC Manifesto and already, $40 million was being spent at Horvi and Blekusu and beyond to arrest the ravages of the sea in order to make way for the building of the seaport.

Hope

“What gives us hope,” according to Mr Quarshiga, “is the oil find in the area which Parliament had given approval for exploration and drilling.”

He said the desire was to see Keta recapture its lost glory as a commercial hub and also continue with the land reclamation programme, as well as ensure that farming in the constituency went beyond peasant farming to the level of commercial farming.

The MP indicated that already he had bought a tractor, through his Common Fund, to support farming activities in the constituency.

In terms of development projects, he said he was focusing on enhanced health care and education,as well as social engagements, including expanding access to water.

Borehole

He stated that  the drilling of two major boreholes at Heluvi with fresh underground water to solve the water problem at Anyaoko, Seva and Konu had commenced.

He said the water project which was being funded by friends of Mahama and the MP was expected to be completed within a month.

Additionally, he said efforts were being made to connect many communities to the national grid.

He said he had also lobbied for the construction of  the Abor-Hator-Godo road, as well as an ICT centre at Keta and Atiavi.

Mr Quarshiga said he was looking forward to increasing the vote margins come the December election.

Mr Quarshiga polled about 94 per cent of the votes in the 2012 election whilst President Mahama polled around 95 per cent.
