If Ibrahim Mahama is not prosecuted I'll poison myself - Ken Agyapong

The Assin Central Member of Parliament, Mr Kennedy Agyapong has said that it was “shameful” for businessman Ibrahim Mahama to “issue 44 dud cheques” to the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), hence must be prosecuted.

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has asked Mr Mahama, to pay GHc12.7million to the state by May 8, 2017.

The amount represents duty for construction equipment he cleared at the Tema Port and issued which were not honoured.

Mr Mahama, owner of the construction company, Engineers & Planners, and a brother of former President John Mahama was meeting EOCO on Friday for the third time this week.

The meeting followed an invitation to answer questions on a number of cheques he is alleged to have issued to the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) in 2016 to pay for import duties on construction equipment.

He first met the anti-corruption agency on Tuesday in relation to an ongoing probe over the cheques.

EOCO's  order was communicated to him on Friday.

Mr Agyapong has for several weeks alleged that Mr Mahama issued dud cheques to the Customs division of the GRA and has subsequently been on a media crusade on several platforms agitating that EOCO should investigate Mr Mahama.

Reacting to the EOCO directive to Mr Mahama to pay Ghc12.7m, Mr Agyapong told Asempa FM's Kwadwo Asare-Baffour Acheampong (KABA) on his Ekossi Sen programme that he would be saddened if Mr Mahama was not prosecuted because the businessman has short-changed the nation.

For him, he would be happy if all other monies belonging to the state that were squandered by the previous government were retrieved and reiterated that he may poison himself if that did not happen.
